Terry Francona stuck with his conviction on Trevor Bauer and it paid off
Terry Francona was criticized by many — including us — for his decision to start Trevor Bauer in Game 1 of the ALDS. Not only did Francona stand strong behind his decision, but the move paid off.
Bauer took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and went 6.2 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out eight as he took the win in the Cleveland Indians’ 4-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Thursday.
After the game, Francona explained his mentality in sticking with Bauer despite all the criticism he faced.

Reliever Cody Allen was complimentary of his manager, saying Francona is “four steps ahead.”

Cleveland now has Corey Kluber set to start on full rest in Game 2 Friday, plus Carlos Carrasco in Game 3. They’re well positioned entering Game 2.
