Tim Hudson wonders if Nationals have the balls to beat the Giants

Tim-HudsonTim Hudson knows the Washington Nationals have enough talent on their roster to be worthy of a postseason spot, but the San Francisco Giants pitcher seems to think his team has an advantage over the Nats in one specific area — male anatomy.

After the Giants dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night to win the NL’s wild-card playoff game, Hudson wondered out loud if the Nationals have the cajones needed to make a deep playoff run.

“Obviously they have a talented group over there, there’s no question,” Hudson told Barry Svrluga of The Washington Post. “They have some great pitching. But come playoff time, talent can take you a long ways, but what do you have between your legs? That’s going to take you real far. And I think we’ve got a group in here that really has some of that.”

The Giants have won two World Series championships in the past four years. As Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post noted, they have also won seven consecutive elimination games. That takes serious grit no matter how you break it down.

The Nationals, on the other hand, have far less playoff experience. They have just one postseason appearance under their belt since moving to the nation’s capital in 2005 — an NLDS loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012.

After partying the night away on Wednesday (did you see all the beers Madison Bumgarner was chugging at once?), the Giants will be far less rested than the Nationals when the NLDS begins on Friday afternoon. Hudson and company are confident they can handle it. And if the Nats needed any additional motivation in advance of the series, Hudson has done them a favor.
