Tommy Hunter suffers back fracture after falling while carrying child

The Cleveland Indians probably didn’t think that they would have to worry about reliever Tommy Hunter’s sense of balance this season.

Hunter has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of a vertebra in his lower back. The apparent culprit of his injury? A fall down the stairs at home while carrying his child.

“He had a little mishap at home during the break,” said Tribe manager Terry Francona on Sunday, per Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com. “He was carrying his child, missed a step and banged his back trying to protect his child.

“He called the trainers, but thought he’d be OK in a couple of days,” Francona continued. “We tried to protect him the last couple of days, but he was out there throwing Saturday and feeling it.”

The 30-year-old Hunter has a 2-2 record with a 3.74 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts in 21 appearances for the Indians this season. Hopefully while Hunter is recovering, he’ll get an Edible Arrangement delivered to his house courtesy of David Robertson and Joba Chamberlain.
