Travis Wood left with mangled finger after crossbow accident
If hunting with a crossbow is your thing, you might want to take what happened to Detroit Tigers pitcher Travis Wood as a friendly reminder to always put safety first.
When pitchers and catchers arrived at spring training this week, Wood revealed to reporters that he suffered a nasty finger injury in a crossbow accident about a month ago. As Chris McCosky of the Detroit News notes, Wood said his right index finger (fortunately his non-throwing hand) was nearly snapped in two. What he has been left with four weeks later could give you nightmares.
If you have a weak stomach, now would be the time to look away:
This is Travis Wood’s finger. He got an x-ray this morning. Finding out later today if he can take the pin out. If so, he can ditch the splint and resume wearing the glove. pic.twitter.com/H9KKokqtwa

Again, the injury was to Wood’s right hand, so it could have been a lot worse from a baseball perspective. Someone like this NFL star would probably tell Wood his injury is nothing, but that whole push pin thing doesn’t look natural.
