Terry Francona: Trevor Bauer ‘very confident’ injured finger will hold up during World Series

After being unable to get through even an inning of his start in the ALCS, Cleveland pitcher Trevor Bauer is confident that the worst of his finger injury is behind him.

Manager Terry Francona said Dr. Thomas Graham would do some extra suture work on Bauer’s injured finger to ensure that he will be good to go during the World Series.

“He’s going to suture it back up so it won’t bleed,” Francona said, via Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com. “That’s really the only issue. And he’s very confident that this is not going to be an issue.”

Bauer himself was very firm. It will have been 10 days between starts if Cleveland saves him for Game Three, and he is certain he won’t have any further issues.

“I’ll be able to pitch, no problem,” Bauer said.

The Indians hoped the same in his ALCS start, but the wound was so fresh that it simply didn’t work out. The prognosis sounds a lot better for the World Series.
