Twins reach merchandising deal with Prince’s estate

The Minnesota Twins are officially partying like it’s 1999.

According to a report by the Minnesota Star Tribune on Monday, the team has reached a deal with the estate of the late singer (and Minnesota legend) Prince to sell Prince-themed merchandise. Items for sale will include hats, shirts, and balls and will be available exclusively at Target Field starting with the Twins’ home opener against Seattle on Apr. 5. The report also says that the merchandising deal, a co-branding one, is believed to be the first of its kind in MLB.

Additionally, the Twins announced that they will be holding their second annual “Prince Night” against the Los Angeles Angels on Jun. 8, featuring an inflatable guitar giveaway to the first 10,000 fans in attendance.

The Star Tribune states that the licensing deal was struck by Delaware North Sportservice, the Twins’ retail provider, and Bravado, a company hired by Prince’s estate last year to handle his branding and merchandising. Team representatives also said that Prince’s family approved of the deal.

The “Purple Rain” singer is obviously one of the biggest icons in Minnesota history, and the official merchandise will be a great way for the Twins and their fans to honor him (beyond the ways that they already have).
