Twins trade Phil Hughes to Padres
The San Diego Padres have picked up a bit of pitching help.
The Padres acquired Phil Hughes from the Minnesota Twins on Sunday in exchange for a minor league catcher.

Hughes was designated for assignment by the Twins last week after posting a 6.75 ERA in 12 innings with the team this season. After a successful 2014, injuries have derailed his career, including a 2016 surgery to correct thoracic outlet syndrome. While other teams may have had interest, it’s the Padres who pulled the trigger in the hopes of finding something left in the 31-year-old’s arm.
