Watch: Astros win on ridiculous walk-off play by Alex Bregman

Alex Bregman

When things are going well in Houston, they’re going really well. And after what happened on Tuesday night, you know things are just going their way.

Alex Bregman was up in the bottom of the 11th inning of a 5-5 game between Houston and the Oakland A’s with runners were on first and second. Bregman hit a little tapper up the first base line that was fielded by A’s catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Lucroy attempted to tag Bregman, who backed up to avoid the tag, all while staying within the baseline. He was unable to make the tag, so he tried to throw to first, but his throw was wide to the right and went into right field allowing the Astros to score the winning run.

Oakland challenged the tag, but the call was upheld.

Bregman had done just about everything for Houston in the game. He hit two home runs to give himself 19 for the season, and he did enough to help his team win in walk-off fashion. At the time of this writing, the official scorer had not ruled Bregman’s tapper as a hit or error.
