Wil Myers pumped about Padres’ offseason trades

Wil Myers rookie

The San Diego Padres have become one of the most exciting teams this offseason, and Wil Myers is pumped to see what his new organization is all about.

The 2013 AL Rookie of the Year was traded by Tampa Bay to San Diego as part of a 3-team, 11-player deal that was made official on Friday. It didn’t take long for Myers to tweet his excitement about the trade.

Myers was a heavily-touted prospect acquired by the Rays in the James Shields deal with Kansas City. Myers batted .293 with 13 home runs in half a season in 2013, but he slumped last season batting just .222/.294/.320 in 87 games. The good news for the Padres is they control Myers through 2019 and will have him at a cheap price for the next few seasons.

So why is Myers so I excited to join the team? Because GM A.J. Preller also acquired Matt Kemp, Justin Upton (see a breakdown of that trade) and Derek Norris in the last two days. Will Middlebrooks is probably coming, too.

The Padres will have a legit lineup to go along with solid pitching next season and they should be a real contender.
