Yankees could reportedly pursue Eric Hosmer in free agency

Eric Hosmer

Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer could be making the leap from small-market sensation to mega-market monster this offseason.

According to a report by Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports on Thursday, the New York Yankees may pursue the former All-Star slugger in free agency.

Per Heyman:

“They could be in play,” one person close to the team said.

The Yankees are said to love Hosmer, who brings the kind of clutch and leadership they seek.

Hosmer, who will be 28 in October, is having a career year for the Royals with a .325/.393/.514 slash line, 24 homers, and 86 RBIs in 146 games. He’s widely seen as one of the top free agent prizes on the market heading into the winter.

The Yankees’ current first-base situation is the source of some uncertainty and even frustration within the team, so they should probably be taken seriously in the Hosmer sweepstakes, especially given their history with elite free agents.
