Yankees security allegedly threatened to jail Blue Jays players for riding scooters

David Price

The Toronto Blue Jays had a bit of a scooter fad going on last season, and Yankee Stadium security supposedly threatened to jail any player who dared ride his inside the ballpark.

WEEI’s Rob Bradford detailed the “Scooter Gang,” which came together after David Price was traded to Toronto in July. Price, the ringleader, got eight EcoReco electric scooters and shared them with teammates, including eventual MVP Josh Donaldson. The group dubbed themselves the “Scooter Gang” and, on road trips where the hotel and the ballpark were close enough together, would traverse the streets on them, using them to get to and from games.

The most notable incident, though, happened in New York, naturally, according to Donaldson.

“He just got a bunch of them and we were like kids in a candy store,” Donaldson said. “They all showed up when we were playing the Yankees in New York. Then the Yankees security tried to tell us they were going to take us to jail if we rode them at the stadium. We were like, ‘€˜We don’€™t need to go jail so let’€™s put them away.’ I’€™m not going to jail.”

Was security just uptight, or were they trying to play mind games with the Yankees’ closest rivals for the division title? Let the conspiracy theories fly!
