Yoenis Cespedes avoids serious injury after being hit on hand (Video)

Yoenis Cespedes hand

The New York Mets appear to have avoided disaster.

Slugger Yoenis Cespedes was hit on the hand during the top of the third inning of the team’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday and left the game. He went inside the clubhouse to be examined and undergo evaluation. Luckily the X-rays were negative, and the team said he just has a contusion on two fingers.

Here is a look at the video of him being hit.

Cespedes was lucky in that the pitch from Justin De Fratus came in at 89 mph and not an even higher speed that could have done more damage.

Cespedes had walked and scored a run earlier in the game. He was replaced in the lineup by Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Cespedes has practically earned celebrity status since being acquired by the Mets mid-season. He has batted .287 with 18 doubles and 17 home runs, producing a .941 OPS in 53 games with his new team. He has given the Mets a serious weapon in the middle of the lineup, and the team would dread to lose him for much time.
