Yu Darvish distances himself from brother’s gambling case

Yu Darvish

Yu Darvish on Tuesday commented on the gambling case involving his brother Sho in Japan, distancing himself from the matter.

“I had nothing to do with what he’s done,” Darvish said via the Dallas Morning News. “That had no effect on me or what I’m doing right now. People make mistakes. My brother made one. … There was really no impact on me; nobody really talked to me in depth. It was almost like watching somebody else’s news.”

MLB investigated the matter involving Darvish’s brother. The Japan Times reported that Sho Darvish took in nearly 2,000 bets on professional baseball games including ones in Japan’s pro league and MLB. Yu was never accused of having any involvement in the scandal.

Yu is coming back from Tommy John surgery and set to return to the Texas Rangers in May. He has gone 39-25 with a 3.28 ERA during his MLB career.
