NBA commissioner jokes about only way to stop LeBron

LeBron James

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver joked about the only way to stop LeBron James.

Silver joined ESPN’s NBA Countdown show prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Cleveland on Wednesday. Considering the setting for the interview — the Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors are in the Finals for the fourth straight year — the commish was asked about the lack of parity in the league. He responded by pointing to the greatness of LeBron.

“Beginning with LeBron … he’s had 59 different teammates over his time in the Finals. He’s had two coaches, two GMs over the last four years. So in terms of creating more parity, short of ankle weights or something …” Silver joked. “Honestly, if you have one guy with that many different teammates who can have the success that he’s having, I think we should be celebrating the excellence.”

Silver also pointed out that the Houston Rockets took the Warriors to a seventh game, so it wasn’t an easy path. He similarly feels they should be celebrated for the way they built their team.

But yeah, a lot of teams — particularly the ones in the Eastern Conference — probably feel that the only way to stop LeBron James is by strapping ankle weights to him.
