Anderson Varejao out for year with torn Achilles

Cleveland Cavaliers center Anderson Varejao will miss the remainder of the 2014-2015 season due to an Achilles injury, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Varejao reportedly suffered a torn Achilles tendon during a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night. An MRI on Wednesday morning confirmed the injury.

While you could argue that the Cavs had been playing better when Tristan Thompson played over Varejao, the injury to Varejao leaves Cleveland’s front court extremely thin. According to ESPN.com, the Cavs have already begun exploring trade possibilities that could bring them another big body.

Varejao is a tremendous interior defender and has a lot of playoff experience. LeBron James has said in the past that Varejao is one of the best teammates he has ever played with.
