Anthony Davis on DeMarcus Cousins: ‘Now he’s the enemy’

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis sure didn’t take long to turn on DeMarcus Cousins.

In an interview with Complex Sports’ Angel Diaz that ran on Monday, the New Orleans Pelicans big man discussed his former teammate’s decision to join the Golden State Warriors.

“I mean, I’m happy for him. He did what he did,” said Davis of Cousins. “He chose the right team for his career right now with his injury, I’m assuming.

“I wish the best of luck to him, and we’ll see him three, maybe four times this year and try to beat him,” AD added. “Now he’s the enemy. Anybody who’s not on the Pelicans is an enemy to me. He went from a teammate to an enemy.”

Davis shared the frontcourt with his fellow Kentucky product in New Orleans for two seasons. However, the actual time they played together added up to less than a full season since Cousins was acquired at the February 2017 trade deadline and tore his Achilles last January, missing the rest of the year.

For the five-time All-Star Davis, this take is hardly surprising given that he recently admitted to being caught slightly off-guard by Cousins’ decision. It’s also the mindset that Davis needs to have now that Cousins has joined the team to beat in both the Western Conference and in the entire NBA.
