Ben Simmons not planning to work out for NBA teams before draft
Sorry NBA executives, but you’re probably not getting any further material to evaluate LSU forward Ben Simmons with.
According to a report by Keith Pompey of the Philly Inquirer on Monday, Simmons is not planning to work out for NBA teams before the NBA Draft on June 23.
The Sixers, who hold the No. 1 overall pick and are expected to select Simmons at that slot, are apparently still trying to get him in for a workout, but they don’t appear to be sweating it either way.
“It’s not a red flag,” Sixers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo was quoted as saying. “Everybody deals with the draft process differently. Sometimes agents are involved. Sometimes families are involved in those decisions. Again, everything we get in respect to our intel that it relates to Ben, is he would very much like to be selected No. 1.”
This is hardly a universe-shattering development since Simmons, as the presumptive top overall selection, has little to gain and everything to lose with a poor showing in workouts. Besides, the 19-year-old has already given us all the entertainment we need from his personal workouts.
