Brandon Ingram calls Lakers’ season ‘depressing’

It’s hard to ignore just how disappointing the Los Angeles Lakers have been this season, and sophomore forward Brandon Ingram isn’t going to try.

Speaking on Saturday after a 14-point home loss to the Charlotte Hornets the night before, Ingram was blunt about the state of affairs for the team.

“It’s kind of depressing because we think we’re a better team than last year,” said the 20-year-old, according to Ryan Ward of ClutchPoints. “We know we can be better every single night, but we also know it’s a process. Everything is not going to be good all the time.”

Ingram himself has shown much improvement on both ends of the floor this season and is averaging a stellar 16.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. But the Lakers are now a Western Conference-worst 11-27 and have dropped their last nine consecutive games, including 12 losses in their last 13. For comparison, they were 13-25 through their first 38 contests last season.

Though they remain one of the NBA’s youngest teams, the Lakers have also been plagued by internal strife recently, and they are at the point where they may need a serious wake-up call just to play .500 ball for the rest of the year.
