Brandon Knight done for the year with sports hernia

Good Knight, sweet prince.

As the cherry on top of the injury bloodbath that has been the 2015-16 Phoenix Suns season, guard Brandon Knight is out for the remainder of the year with a sports hernia, according to a report by Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic on Sunday.

Knight is said to be going in for a second opinion later this week, after which a determination on possible surgery will be made.

Coro reports that Knight initially suffered the injury on December 31 against Oklahoma City, then aggravated it on a January 19 dunk attempt against Indiana. Knight proceeded to miss a month and a half of action before playing gingerly through ten games in March, then aggravating the injury again on another dunk attempt against Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old guard finishes the year with averages of 19.6 points per game, 3.9 rebounds per game, and 5.1 assists per game.

The Suns clock in at 20-57 on the season, but if there’s any silver lining of the injuries to Knight and backcourt partner Eric Bledsoe, it’s that star rookie Devin Booker has gotten some crucial minutes for his development. Armed with a high lottery pick and hopefully that dynamic trio of Kentucky guards at full health, things should be looking much better in Phoenix come next year.
