Brandon Roy reportedly drawing interest from several teams

Brandon Roy’s name may have been accompanied by the word “retirement” not too long ago, but that discussion was clearly premature. As Roy recovers from knee problems and prepares for his return to the NBA, a number of teams who believe he has plenty of good basketball remaining in his legs are lining up and preparing to make an offer. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Bulls, Mavericks, Pacers, Timberwolves and Warriors are all legitimate suitors for the 27-year-old guard.

Roy has reportedly been undergoing the same platelet-rich plasma therapy treatment that Kobe Bryant underwent for his ailing knee. A number of teams will be willing to use the full mid-level exception for Roy assuming he can return to form and eventually get back to being one of the better guards in the league.

According to ESPN 1500 in Minneapolis, the Timberwolves have already prepared a two-year offer for Roy. However, many believe that he would rather play for a championship contender, so a team like Chicago could make more sense.

With Derrick Rose’s status remaining uncertain, we know the Bulls are going to explore a number of temporary options at point guard this upcoming season. If Rose returns at some point next season, it could create an ideal situation with Roy coming off the bench as both will likely be shouldering less than a full load. Wherever he ends up, it’s clear that there is no shortage of NBA teams who believe Roy still has something to offer.
