Brian Shaw reportedly close to joining Luke Walton’s staff

Brian ShawBrian Shaw is close to reaching a deal with the Lakers to join new head coach Luke Walton’s coaching staff.

The Los Angeles Times’ Broderick Turner reports the news and says the position is for Shaw to become Walton’s lead assistant.

Shaw was a former first-round pick by the Boston Celtics and played 14 seasons during his career. He spent the final four seasons of his career with the Lakers, winning three championship with the team.

Shaw went into coaching after his playing career. He served as an assistant for the Lakers from 2005-2011 and coached Walton during that time.

Shaw moved on to the Indiana Pacers as an assistant, and then he served as head coach for the Denver Nuggets, going 56-85 over parts of two seasons.

Turner says Shaw’s experience as a championship player, longtime assistant coach, and even head coach, contributed to Walton’s desire to have him on staff.
