Bucks reportedly scheduled to meet with Dwyane Wade

Dwyane Wade

Would Dwyane Wade potentially consider a return to his old collegiate stomping grounds? The Milwaukee Bucks are certainly hoping so.

According to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN on Sunday, the Bucks are scheduled to have a free agent recruiting meeting with Wade upon the conclusion of the July 4th holiday.

The 34-year-old Wade, who is currently on vacation in Spain, played his college ball at Marquette University in Milwaukee. Wade’s camp has reportedly been entertaining offers from several other teams after talks to re-sign with Miami, where he has spent his entire 13-year NBA career, supposedly stalled. While some of those rumors have been dismissed as gambits for leverage, some NBA executives seem to believe Wade’s threat to leave the Heat is credible.

The Bucks have an attractive young nucleus to pitch Wade on and may have an opening at the starting 2-guard position especially after the dismissal of O.J. Mayo and how committed the team seems to starting Giannis Antetokounmpo at point guard next season. But Stein also notes that Milwaukee doesn’t currently have the cap space to sign Wade and that most of the league still believes Wade will come to a resolution with Miami.

The Heat are currently mired in a pursuit of Kevin Durant, but with decision time imminent for Durant, their attention should soon turn to Wade, meaning that, either way, we’re likely to have a final determination shortly.
