Byron Scott has amusing retort to fan criticisms

Byron-Scott

With 126 losses in just two seasons on the job, Byron Scott has been nothing short of a cataclysmic disaster as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. But he wants to make sure you realize that, in spite of everything, he still knows much more about the sport of basketball than you do.

In his exit interview with the media on Friday, Scott had this rebuttal to all of the fans who have criticized him for the job he has done (per Mark Medina of the LA Daily News):

Scott definitely has a point having won three championships in 14 seasons in the league as a player before 15 years and counting as a head coach, during which time he made two NBA Finals appearances and won Coach of the Year honors in 2008.

But still, it’s not saying much that Scott is smarter than the average basketball fan. We should certainly hope so, after all. What really matters is if Scott is smarter than (or even just as smart) as the other 29 coaches in the Association, a notion he has proven to be highly doubtful over the course of the last two seasons.

It remains to be seen if/when the Lakers, who finished the season with a record of 17-65, will themselves get smarter than the average basketball fan and realize that Scott needs to be shown the door if they are to begin to reclaim some of their old glory.
