Byron Scott rips Lakers’ ‘terrible’ defense

Byron Scott Lakers

Byron Scott was fuming over the Lakers’ poor defense displayed in a 109-102 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.

The Lakers are 1-7 and allowing 111.5 points per game, which is the worst mark in the league. The poor defense has left the head coach dumbfounded.

“To be honest with you, most of the time, the things that we want to do, they haven’t done,” Scott said via ESPN.com’s Baxter Holmes. “And I don’t know if it’s because they’re incapable of doing it or not.”

The Pelicans scored an astounding 60 points in the paint. Scott couldn’t believe his team’s inability to defend the interior.

“They got pretty much anything they wanted in the paint with no resistance whatsoever,” Scott said. “It was just terrible. That was probably the worst defense that we’ve played from the preseason all the way to this particular point.”

The Lakers entered the season with low expectations after last season’s 27-55 disaster. Given their terrible defense, and an offense that isn’t much better, the Lakers won’t sniff 27 wins. Scott could end up regretting taking the job.
