Carmelo Anthony reportedly expects to remain with Knicks this season

Carmelo Anthony

With the NBA trade deadline less than a week away, it appears less likely than ever that the New York Knicks will be dealing Carmelo Anthony.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported over the weekend that Anthony is not planning to waive his no-trade clause.

“As of right now, Carmelo Anthony’s intention, sources tell me, is to remain in New York,” Wojnarowski said. “He hasn’t been brought any deal in recent days — even during All-Star weekend — that would inspire him to want to waive this no-trade clause.”

The Los Angeles Clippers are one team that was said to be interested in Anthony at one point, but Wojnarowski believes they are more likely to circle back and reach out to the Knicks at the time of the draft. Furthermore, Carmelo is said to be inclined to remain in New York at least through the end of the season, as he has no interest in relocating midway through the year.

None of this is terribly surprising, as we already knew Anthony was going to be very selective if he does agree to a trade. No matter how many tweets Knicks president Phil Jackson sends intending to irritate Carmelo, the 32-year-old has repeatedly said he is happy in New York and wants to put his family above all else. Don’t be surprised if he sticks around for a while longer.
