Carmelo Anthony says he’s getting used to off-ball role with Thunder

Carmelo Anthony isn’t as ball-dominant as he’s used to this year with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he says he’s okay adapting to the role.

Thunder coach Billy Donovan wants Anthony to become a catch-and-shoot player in Oklahoma City, and while that’s a big change for the veteran star, he says he’s working hard on doing it.

“I think for me it’s just a matter of accepting that role. That’s all it is,” Anthony said, via Royce Young of ESPN. “Realizing that’s what it’s going to be, these are the type of shots I’m going to get, this is the type of offense we’re going to be running and accepting that, and working on that role. That’s something that I’ve kind of been doing over the past week, is allowing myself to accept that role and do whatever I gotta do to make this team win.”

Anthony scored 24 points in a win over the Atlanta Hawks with this approach, and he’s confident in it going forward.

“Just talking, communication, watching film,” he said. “With coach figuring out what this team really needs from myself, and I said something back in New York that we all need to figure out what our roles are on the team, so I think I figured out what my role would be on it.”

There has been talk of chemistry issues with the Thunder, though the team has denied that. Anthony seems to be working hard to show that it’s not the case as well.
