Carmelo Anthony: Knicks struggles are ‘kind of a rough patch for me’

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony admitted that he’s facing a rough patch right now and is trying to get out of it.

Anthony’s Knicks are well on their way to their third consecutive losing season, the worst period of Anthony’s career. It’s a stark contrast to three of his good friends – LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul – who are all playing for teams with championship aspirations.

“I don’t think envy is kind of the right word,” Anthony said Friday when asked about the success of his friends compared to his own, via Frank Isola of the New York Daily News. “I do look at my peers and say, ‘Damn, what am I doing wrong? I should be there.’ There was one point in time where they were looking at me like that. Made (the playoffs) 10, 11 years straight.

“Right now it’s kind of a rough patch for me. I’m trying to figure out a way to get out of it.”

Isola noted that Anthony doesn’t seem inclined to waive his no-trade clause during the offseason, but that could change.

Anthony’s frustrations with the team’s struggles seem to be nearing a boiling point, as evidenced by some of his recent actions and some comments he’s made about the team. Melo will be 32 when next season tips off, and he might have to move elsewhere to contend for the title that he so badly wants.
