Carmelo Anthony had no input on Knicks coaching search, happy with Jeff Hornacek

Carmelo Anthony

If keeping Carmelo Anthony happy was a reason behind the Knicks’ hiring of Jeff Hornacek as coach, it seems to be working.

Anthony told New York’s WABC on Saturday that, while he wasn’t consulted on the hire, he was looking forward to playing in Hornacek’s system.

“I played against him a couple times when he was the head coach out there in Phoenix,” Anthony said, via Jake Becker of the New York Daily News. “Everybody knows he likes to play an up-tempo pace of game, likes to get out in transition, likes to speed the game up a lot. So from that standpoint, I’ll definitely be looking forward to that.”

Though Anthony had voiced his hope that his input would be sought during the hiring process, he said that he hadn’t been asked.

“Whatever Phil did, he did on his own,” Anthony said.

Even though he didn’t get his wish on input, Anthony seems satisfied with the hire. He’s probably even happier because Hornacek reportedly won’t be forced to run Phil Jackson’s preferred triangle offense. Given that Anthony had voiced his concerns about that system, he must be thrilled to see things opened up a little.
