Carmelo Anthony on board with LeBron James’ plan for teaming up

LeBron James said earlier this week that he would love to someday play on one team with his three closest friends in the NBA — Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul. Anthony is all for it, but he doesn’t envision it happening anytime soon.

When asked about LeBron’s seemingly unrealistic wish, Carmelo admitted it is more of a fantasy than anything.

“We still got years in this league,” Anthony told reporters Wednesday, according to the New York Post. “Everybody dreams sometimes. Everybody has fantasies. We’d all have to take pay cuts. I’d take one. I think at that time we’d want to go someplace warm. Later — [close to] retirement.”

LeBron said he would take less money if it meant playing alongside Anthony, Wade and Paul. None of the four players are projected to hit the free agent market until 2018, though James can opt out of his deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

You never know when LeBron is simply trying to motivate the Cavs. That is probably what he was trying to do when he snubbed all of his current teammates in an Instagram post about friendship, and talking about joining a super team could fall under the same umbrella.

Our guess? This never happens. The only way it would is if all four played into their late-30s, and the chances of that happening are not good.
