Carmelo Anthony ‘skeptical’ of new CBA before Thursday deadline

Negotiations for a new NBA collective bargaining agreement appear to have hit some sort of snag.

Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, the vice president of the NBPA, said Sunday that he is “skeptical” of a new deal being agreed before Dec. 15, the deadline for either party to opt out of the current agreement.

“I’m skeptical of something getting done,” Anthony said, via Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. “Do I think something could happen by the 15th? Yeah, I think something could happen. But I think this kind of put a dent in conversations.

“We had something so close. We were supposed to have a deal done weeks ago, and for this to happen at the 25th hour is tough.”

Anthony did not go into any detail as to what the issue was, saying only that the players wanted to get a deal done.

Optimism had been high up until these comments, and there had been no reason to think there would be no deal. There still might be. However, this suddenly raises some questions with the Thursday deadline looming.
