Report: Carmelo Anthony would not accept trade to Celtics

Carmelo Anthony

The Knicks are inching closer to missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season, and Carmelo Anthony has been quite vocal lately in expressing his disappointment.

That doesn’t mean he is looking for a way out of New York.

According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, the Celtics expressed interest in acquiring Anthony prior to the trade deadline. While it is unclear if there were ever any formal discussions between the Celtics and Knicks, Anthony reportedly made it known that he would not waive his no-trade clause for Boston.

Anthony said earlier this month that winning one championship in New York would be “better than winning multiple somewhere else.” Begley notes that those close to Carmelo believe he truly wants to stick with the Knicks and find a way to win.

That said, Anthony is not getting any younger and has battled knee injuries the past few seasons. The 31-year-old blasted his teammates after a recent blowout, and it has become clear that he is frustrated. If Phil Jackson can’t do enough to upgrade the roster this summer, you have to wonder if Anthony will start to pressure the Knicks to set him free.
