Report: Cavaliers would have strongly considered Tom Thibodeau if job opened last summer

Tom Thibodeau

Tom Thibodeau would have been a candidate for the Cleveland Cavaliers job had the team elected to fire David Blatt during the summer, according to a report.

The former Bulls coach would have received “heavy consideration’ during the offseason, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, but the team elected to keep Blatt at that time.

Thibodeau was apparently not considered after Blatt’s actual firing, with Cavs brass deciding that Tyronn Lue had done such a fine job being both Blatt’s loyal associate and building relationships with the players that he was best equipped to coach the team.

Thibodeau probably would’ve given that Cavs job a long look, too. They were a team ready to contend for a championship right away. Now he’s stuck getting courted by teams that are a total mess, like this one in particular. He may well have to wait until next summer to get a job worth taking.
