Report: Cavs will honor Kyrie Irving with video tribute on opening night

Kyrie Irving may have blindsided the Cleveland Cavaliers when he demanded to be traded this offseason, but the team is reportedly going to take the high road when the star point guard comes to town on the NBA’s opening night.

According to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, the Cavs are planning to honor Irving on Tuesday night with a video montage when the Boston Celtics visit Quicken Loans Arena. The video is intended to serve as a “thank you” for Irving after he spent six seasons in Cleveland and helped the Cavs capture their first and only NBA title.

After he was traded to Boston, Irving publicly thanked the Cavs for having enough faith in him to draft him No. 1 overall and for giving him his start in the NBA. He even gave his sneakers to a young fan who was wearing a Cavs jersey during a preseason game.

However, we would be surprised to hear nothing but cheers for Irving on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old recently took a subtle jab at Cleveland while praising his new home, and you can bet Cavs fans aren’t going to forget it.
