Cavs have reportedly pursued trade for Kosta Koufos

kosta-koufos

Even Captain Obvious knows that the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to be buyers this trade deadline, and now we have further evidence of that much.

According to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN on Monday, the Cavs have pursued Kings big man Kosta Koufos as one of their trade targets.

Koufos, 26, has averages of 6.8 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game in 19.7 minutes per game for Sacramento this season.

The former No. 23 overall pick is a Canton, Ohio native and played his college ball at Ohio State.

The Cavs haven’t had great interior play this year. Offseason knee surgery has sapped Timofey Mozgov (a former teammate of Koufos’ in Denver) of most of his effectiveness, Anderson Varejao is aging, Tristan Thompson is undersized, and Sasha Kaun is simply too raw.

Koufos plays both big man positions and would be a decent two-way piece that could come at a cost-effective price point.

Cleveland has also been linked recently to Jared Dudley and are said to be showing interest in the likes of Kyle Korver, Joe Johnson, Trevor Ariza and Ben McLemore. With the team apparently gauging Kevin Love’s market as well, the Cavs seem (rightfully) convinced that they might have to make a move at the deadline in order to fend off an up-and-coming Raptors team and other contenders in this year’s Eastern Conference landscape.
