Charles Jennings charged with stealing $1.5 million in LeBron Nike sneakers

Nike-LeBron-12

A Memphis man has been charged with theft of property after he nearly made off with 7,500 pairs of the newest Nike LeBron 12 sneakers back in early November.

As ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports, Charles Jennings used his Intermodal Cartage Group ID card to get into a secure lot and drive away with a truck containing approximately $1.5 million worth of shoes. Jennings works for Intermodal Cartage Group, which is a cargo transportation company.

Intermodal Cartage Group later reported the truck missing, and police received a tip about where it might be on Nov. 14.

A cosmetic issue delayed the launch of the LeBron 12’s, and Jennings had reportedly already sold around 700 pairs.

“He had a pretty good idea what he had,” Mark Dunbar, assistant chief of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, explained. “They were Nikes and they were more valuable in that they hadn’t been released yet.”

Jennings admitted to stealing the truck and is currently free on $75,000 bond.

We know basketball shoes can be really mesmerizing these days (remember the ones Metta World Peace unveiled back in September?), but it sounds like Jennings could have thought things through a bit more. Perhaps he could have transferred the stolen merchandise to a different vehicle. That would have been a start.
