Clippers, Lou Williams reportedly agree to 3-year contract extension

Lou Williams

Maybe the Los Angeles Clippers aren’t completely tearing down the organization for a rebuild.

Even though the Clippers traded Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons last week, a report said the team was looking to extend Lou Williams. Talks on that front were heating up, according to a report from ESPN early Wednesday morning. And now The Vertical’s Shams Charania is reporting that the two sides have agreed to a 3-year contract extension. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski says the third year includes a team option.

Williams, 31, is having a breakout season. He’s averaging a career-high 23.3 points and 5.3 assists per game and narrowly missed making the All-Star team.

And as positive as this news about the extension is, we still should not discount the possibility of him potentially being traded in the future. After all, the Clippers had just signed Griffin to a huge deal over the summer and dealt him in the middle of his first season after that.
