Report: David Blatt ‘still in the mix’ for Knicks job

David Blatt Cavs

Perhaps David Blatt is in the running for the New York Knicks job after all.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Blatt “is still in the mix” for the job, contrary to other published reports who portrayed Blatt’s interview as a smokescreen.

It is also said to be untrue that Blatt is a candidate to be Kurt Rambis’s top assistant, with the Knicks believing that Blatt will be a head coach somewhere next season. In fact, word is that Rambis would possibly be Blatt’s “offensive triangle coordinator” if Blatt were hired.

Blatt is very close with general manager Steve Mills, and the two played together at Princeton. It is reported that a Blatt hiring would be the first sign that Phil Jackson is passing the torch to Mills, who is considered his likely successor.

This runs counter to a lot of what we’ve heard. Blatt would be an interesting candidate, though it would be very interesting to see Carmelo Anthony’s response, given Blatt’s rocky relationship with one of Anthony’s best buddies.
