DeMarcus Cousins: Brittney Griner ‘delusional’ for saying she could beat him one-on-one
Brittney Griner thinks she could take DeMarcus Cousins in a game of one-on-one. Cousins disagrees, to say the least.
Griner told Sam Amick of USA Today last week that she wanted a shot at Cousins, and has since trash talked him on Instagram.
Cousins wasn’t very charitable in his response.
“I’m glad she’s that confident in her ability, but she’s also a little delusional,” Cousins said with a chuckle. “It’s not a walk in the park over here.”
“I’m just going to use that to fuel this,” Griner said with a laugh when told that it had been said she would be the third best post player on the men’s team. “I’m better, but, and I know that kinda gets at them, but it’s okay. It’s okay, little man.”
Most of Cousins’s teammates agreed, though Carmelo Anthony and DeAndre Jordan both said they’d love to see it. Naturally, Griner’s teammates generally stood with her, with Diana Taurasi saying she believed Griner would win.
Interestingly, women’s coach Geno Auriemma also weighed in.
“If there’s no referee, I’m going to go to the ATM, and I’m going to sell my house, and I’m going to put all my money on DeMarcus Cousins,” Auriemma said.
We know of at least one other NBA icon who would likely pick Cousins as well. It would certainly make for a good spectacle, though.
