DeMarcus Cousins speaks positively about relationship with new coach

DeMarcus Cousins

After their ill-fated decision to fire Mike Malone two years ago, the Sacramento Kings may have finally found their next Boogie Whisperer.

After the Kings won their season opener against Phoenix on Wednesday by the final of 113-94, center DeMarcus Cousins discussed his relationship with head coach Dave Joerger, his sixth in six years with the team.

“I like him and he likes me,” the two-time All-Star big man said, per Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee. “Joerger’s been great. I think what he brought to the team is what this team needed. It fits our identity more than how we played in the past. Not to knock any of the previous situations but I think this situation fits this team the best.”

That’s music to the ears of Sacramento fans and management alike, especially considering how relations between Cousins and his head coach last season were acrimonious, to say the absolute least.

Appeasing the moody 26-year-old center might not solve all the problems the Kings have in-house. But it’s at least a damn good place to start.
