Dennis Rodman pleads guilty to DUI, avoids jail time

Dennis Rodman

Dennis Rodman was facing significant jail time after he was arrested for driving while under the influence back in January, but it sounds like the former NBA star reached a deal that will keep him out of a jumpsuit.

According to TMZ, Rodman recently struck a plea deal with prosecutors in which he agreed to plead guilty in exchange for only having to spend nine months in an alcohol program. Given the circumstances surrounding the case, that seems like a very light punishment.

Rodman was charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI after his Jan. 13 arrest. Police records state that his blood alcohol content was .21, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08. Making matters worse, Rodman was on probation at the time stemming from a hit-and-run incident in July 2016. The details surrounding that crash made it seem as though he was impaired, though he was not charged with DUI.

According to TMZ, Rodman’s probation was revoked following his most recent arrest but reinstated after he agreed to a plea deal. He was told that if he violates his probation again within the next two years, he will be sentenced to 90 days in jail.

Rodman recently committed a short-term rehab program for substance abuse, and it sounds as if he plans to continue with a long-term treatment program.
