Derrick Rose may have lost a season of his NBA career to a knee injury, but he has not lost his confidence.
The Chicago Bulls point guard sat down with CNN’s Pedro Pinto for a round of rapid-fire questions. During the interview, Rose, who is from Chicago, called Michael Jordan his basketball idol and Chicago the greatest city in the world. He said getting drafted was his career highlight and injuring his knee was a low-light.
The most interesting comment from Rose came when the former NBA MVP was asked who the best player in the league is. Rose said it was himself.
Most people would consider LeBron James the best player in the league, and Rose did call LeBron the toughest player to guard.
That’s a pretty bold answer from Rose considering he missed the past season while James has won back-to-back titles and NBA Finals MVP awards. James has also won four of the last five NBA MVP awards, with Rose taking the honor in between.
Though I strongly disagree with Rose’s answer, I absolutely love it. That’s the type of confidence you need to have as a top player in order to compete at the highest level. How would Rose’s Bulls be able to beat the Miami Heat if Rose didn’t believe he was the best player in the league?
For the record, I probably would put Rose third in my rankings behind LeBron and Kevin Durant.
