Derrick Rose suffers orbital fracture, will require surgery

Derrick Rose

NBA training camps began this week, and Derrick Rose has already suffered his first significant injury of the 2015-2016 season.

The Chicago Bulls announced on Tuesday that Rose was struck in the face with an elbow during practice and ended up with a fractured left orbital. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday. No timetable has been given for his return.

Rose has not played a full season in over three years due to various injuries, most of which have had to do with his knees. The only silver lining for Bulls fans this time is that a fractured orbital should have no effect on Rose’s mobility. There is also plenty of time to recover before the start of the regular season.

Rose will be looking to regain some of the explosiveness he had several seasons ago this year. It’s unclear how much his latest injury will set him back. The 26-year-old has also been dealing with a lawsuit this offseason after a woman accused him and two friends of drugging and gang-raping her.

While it could be worse, this is certainly not the way the Bulls wanted to begin training camp.
