Dirk Nowitzki reportedly signs two-year, $40 million extension with Mavs

Dirk Nowitzki caveman

Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks have reached an agreement that should keep the 38-year-old in Dallas for the remainder of his career.

ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that Nowitzki will sign what equates to a two-year, $40 million extension with the Mavs. The contract likely includes a player option for the second season so Dirk can decide if he wants to continue playing beyond next year.

After he averaged a respectable 18.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season, Nowtizki made it clear that he has no intention of retiring. The way he reacted after a playoff loss proves that Dirk still has plenty of passion for the game.

There was some speculation that teams would try to pry Nowitzki away from Dallas this offseason, but there was never a real chance of that happening. Mark Cuban has said in the past that Dirk is basically a king in Dallas, and the new deal proves he means it.
