Draymond Green guarantees Warriors will come back to beat Rockets

Draymond Green

The Golden State Warriors have found themselves on the brink of elimination in the Western Conference Finals, which is a spot many did not envision them being in for at least the next several seasons. If you believe Draymond Green, it is not going to last.

Following his team’s loss to the Houston Rockets in Game 5 on Thursday, Green made a bold proclamation.

“We still winning this,” he told Marcus Thompson of The Athletic. “Book it.”

Thompson notes that the Warriors remain confident, but Green was the only player who was willing to go on the record and guarantee that the team will return to the NBA Finals. The reporter also described Golden State as “much more somber” after they lost at home in Game 4 than they were after Thursday’s 98-94 defeat.

Steve Kerr said he felt “great” after the Game 5 loss, and Green and Stephen Curry had an interesting exchange in which they compared the series to the 2015 Western Conference semifinals, when the Warriors were down 2-1 against the Memphis Grizzlies and ended up winning three straight games.

You know what this feels like?” Stephen Curry said to Green, two lockers over.

“Memphis,” Green answered.

“Yup,” Curry said. “This feels like Memphis.”

Then Green, his olive pants on as he buttoned up, smiled as if the nostalgia warmed his soul. The grin came with a sneaky look in his eyes.

“We figured something out in that series,” Green said.

Golden State is heading back home for Game 6, and a couple of things could be working in their favor. It sounds like Andre Iguodala may be ready to return, and the Rockets could wind up being without one of their most important players. We can’t imagine the Warriors are banking on injuries, so they must feel they will have a perfect game plan prepared.
