Draymond Green: A kick to the groin is different from a punch

The NBA could decide on a possible Draymond Green suspension as early as Monday afternoon, and the Golden State Warriors forward has been doing his best to downplay the Flagrant 1 he was assessed during Game 3 Sunday night.

Considering Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dahntay Jones was just suspended one game for punching Toronto Raptors big man Bismack Biyombo in the groin area, it would be surprising if Green doesn’t face the same punishment. While speaking to reporters on Monday, Green tried to argue that a kick to the groin is different from a punch.

“(Jones) punched him,” Green said, via Ben Golliver of SI.com. “If I come punch you in your head, I probably did that on purpose because I’m going to intentionally use my arm. I don’t think you can ever really compare a leg to an arm.”

Green should just stick to the assertion that he did not intend to kick Steven Adams, because the punch vs. kick argument is incredibly weak. A punch and a kick are equally uncalled for if the context is the same.

Unfortunately for Green, there is more precedent for a one-game suspension than just the Jones case. We already gave you many more examples of players being suspended for shots to the groin area.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr thinks the NBA should rescind the Flagrant 1 against Green, but it doesn’t sound like that is going to happen.
