Why was Draymond Green ‘pissed off’ by Kristaps Porzingis’ comments?

Draymond Green

Draymond Green is really starting to reach when it comes to finding sources of motivation.

Earlier in the week, New York Knicks big man Kristaps Porzingis called Green “one of the top defenders in the league” and said he was looking forward to facing him on Thursday night.

“Both games he played really well defensively against me,” Porzingis said, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “So he’s one of the top defenders in the league. It’s going to be a challenge … but I’m really looking forward to it.

Porzingis also said Green did not talk trash to him in their previous two meetings.

“We didn’t really talk about nothing,” he added. “But after games like that, you don’t even need anybody to talk to you. I want to go out there. Last season, right after the game was over I was thinking when was the next time we were going to get a chance to play against them. I’m ready for him.”

For some reason, those comments irritated Green. After the Warriors beat the Knicks 103-90 on Thursday, Green said he saw what Porzingis said just before tip-off and was “pissed off.”

No matter how many times I read through Porzingis’ quote, I can’t figure out what he said that Green would perceive as even remotely disrespectful. In fact, it seemed like Porzingis was heaping praise on the Golden State star.

The again, this is very typical of Green. He recently said he was motivated by something an opposing coach said, and that wasn’t offensive either. Hey, whatever works.
