Draymond Green on Warriors being villain: ‘Who cares?’

Draymond-Green

The Golden State Warriors are going to hear an awful lot of boos during the upcoming season, and Draymond Green is not concerned about it. In fact, the star forward is prepared to embrace the hate.

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Green was asked about the Warriors being considered the “villain” of the NBA. He seemed annoyed.

“Who cares what someone tries to make us out to be?” Green said, via Anthony Slater of The Mercury News. “We’re trying to win basketball games. If they want to make us the villain, that’s fine. They’re gonna boo us anyway everywhere we go, so that’s fine. The most fun I have in this game is going on another team’s floor and quieting their crowd anyway. So boo. Then eventually you’ll shut up. And I’ll laugh. We’ll laugh. And we’ll keep it moving.”

Green seemed even more irritated when he recalled how he, Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson were booed at the Staples Center when they were representing Team USA before heading off to the Rio Olympics.

“It’s like Jesus Christ,” he said. “I just don’t understand some people. Even if I hate you and whatever team you play for, if you’re gonna wear a Team USA jersey and represent my country, for one day I can give it up and say, ‘OK, I’m with you for this day.’ They booed us still … More power to those people. They’re angry about something in life. I’m not sure what.”

The Warriors know exactly what to expect this season, even if their head coach doesn’t agree with it. Anything short of a championship would be a major letdown for their fans, and anything beyond a second-place finish would be equally disappointing for most everyone else.
