Dwight Howard gets mural welcoming him home to Atlanta

Dwight-Howard

After three seasons with the Rockets, Dwight Howard signed as a free agent with the Hawks earlier this month. The eight-time all-star is from Atlanta and, not surprisingly, there is no shortage of people anxious to welcome him home.

Howard met with the Hawks during free agency three years ago, prior to signing with the Rockets. This time around, the Hawks got their man and Howard has returned to his hometown. Among those glad to see the big man in Atlanta is an artist who used a wall as his canvas and painted a mural welcoming Howard home.

Very impressive work, indeed. One thing that sticks out is Howard’s uniform No. 8. With the Magic, Lakers, and Rockets, he wore uniform No. 12. You can see the reason behind the change here.

There have been concerns over Howard’s troublesome back, but he insists he’s healthy and ready to go for the upcoming season. And while he’s not the same player he was prior to back surgery, Howard has still been a productive player when on the floor. The Hawks will need him to be just that with Al Horford now a member of the Celtics.

In 71 games last season, Howard averaged 13.7 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game.
