Dwight Howard stopped for speeding, had car towed night Hawks were eliminated

Dwight Howard

Dwight Howard’s season ended on a sour note a couple of weeks ago, with the Atlanta Hawks being eliminated from the playoffs by the Washington Wizards in a 115-95 loss. At the moment the final buzzer sounded, Howard probably didn’t think his night could get much worse.

Boy, was he wrong.

Mitchell Northam of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution revealed on Monday that Howard was pulled over for speeding not long after he left the Philips Arena on April 28. Police say he was driving 95 mph in a 65-mph zone down the freeway, but that wasn’t what got him into the most trouble.

According to the police report, Howard was driving with a suspended registration and did not have valid insurance. Howard said he was “confused” by the officer’s finding, though he did not have any documentation showing proof of insurance. The 31-year-old was issued a ticket for not having insurance and given a verbal warning for speeding and driving with a suspended registration. His car was towed, but he was able to get a ride with a personal security guard who had been following him.

Given all of the violations, Howard actually got off pretty easy. Perhaps the officer felt bad for the big man after his uninspiring nine-point, seven-rebound performance in Game 6 against Washington. Or maybe the cop was a fan of some of the incredibly immature jokes Howard has been known to make. Either way, Howard’s rough night could have been rougher.
