Dwyane Wade reportedly ahead of schedule, could return before postseason

Dwyane Wade Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have clawed their way up to the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference, and they could soon be nearing full health as well.

ESPN’s Nick Friedell reports on Wednesday that Bulls guard Dwyane Wade is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a fractured right elbow and could return before the playoffs start.

The 35-year-old Wade, who is averaging 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game this year, injured the elbow in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on March 15. He was expected to miss the remainder of the regular season.

The Bulls have gone 6-4 in Wade’s absence with both Jimmy Butler (28.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game over that stretch) and Rajon Rondo (10.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game) enjoying big statistical boosts. Wade is still an impact talent at the two-guard position, but his ball-stopping tendencies have clashed head-on with the playing styles of Butler and Rondo. It will be worth keeping an eye on to see how the team performs once he’s back in the lineup.
